For as long as I can remember, Auntie Cecilia was the master at assigning pet names and nicknames. She had a gift for making you feel seen the moment you walked into a room. No matter the occasion, I never had to search far to find her. The moment Auntie Cecilia spotted me, everyone present would hear her call out, “Maame ooo Maame!” I’d pretend not to hear her, acting like she must be calling someone else. But that never stopped her. If anything, it only fuelled her determination. She’d call out even louder, with more conviction, until I finally gave in and came over to give her a hug. That was our ritual, our little dance, and I wouldn’t trade those moments for anything. Auntie Cecilia was one of my Favorite aunts. She was warm and kind, yet strict when she needed to be, always with a touch of love woven through everything she did. Her humour was unmatched. She could make you laugh until your sides hurt, and in the next breath, offer wisdom that stayed with you for years. Over the years, I went to Auntie Cecilia for spirited conversations and advice. She had a way of listening that made you feel heard, and a way of speaking that made you think. She challenged me, encouraged me, and loved me unconditionally. I’ll miss hearing “Maame ooo Maame” echo across the room. I’ll miss her laughter, her wisdom, andthosewarmhugs. But I’mgrateful for every moment, every conversation, and every lesson she gave me. Rest in perfect peace, Auntie Cecilia. You will always hold a special place in our hearts. From Louis Yaw Twene Gyimah NEPHEW T R I B U T E 1 1946 MRS. CECILIA JOHNSON 2025 51 A Loving Farewell
