She wasn’t our grandmother by blood but by heart, by laughter, and by love, she truly was. Whenever she came from Sunyani, she’d call out to us with that familiar smile, and without fail, we’d all laugh as she’d weigh our breasts in her palm, her playful way of showing love, her signature greeting. Martha: She never missed a chance to tease me about that “rat in my house,” and she always asked when I was going to the market not for anything fancy, but because she wanted her Favorite pig feet. It’s those little things her jokes, her warmth, her realness that made her so special. She filled every space she entered with laughter and light and made ordinary moments unforgettable. Mary: To the lady I have become Auntie Cee silently shaped her. Through her soft smile and her gentle yet firm ways, she moulded me into the lady I am today. She made sure I began my tertiary education with ease, and she never stopped encouraging me to keep going, no matter the challenges. There were times she would send me back to my room to change if I wasn’t properly dressed for work, a true lady, teaching another what it means to carry herself with grace and pride. She was more than a friend’s mother, she became our grandmother, our comfort, our joy. Grandma, we will miss caring for you. We’ll miss your teasing questions, “What are you wearing?” and “Sit properly, like an Ewuraba.” You may have gone ahead of us, but your spirit, humour, and love will forever live in our hearts. With love always, Martha &Mary (The Twins) To our Grandmother Mary and Martha Aryee T R I B U T E 1 1946 MRS. CECILIA JOHNSON 2025 61 A Loving Farewell
