Gen 3. Well, us, Emmeline, Henry and Nana…. Emmeline was Aunty Cece’s bridesmaid, and they completely fooled me into believing I was going to feature too, they took me to every dress fitting, every rehearsal, I was so ready. So you can imagine how shocked I was when on the day, I was completely not required, I was so heart-broken. But I forgave Aunty Cece. Why because of her super power. When she came to visit she always wore stilettos, she was already tall, she wouldwalk in the roomwith hersix inch stilettos, tell us stories, make us laugh, defend us if we were in trouble and best of all we would ask her to screech her red Datsun 120Y for us and she would, she was the best imitation formula one driver ever. Gen 4 Several years ago, we lost our paternal grandmother, so we went to Cape Coast for the funeral. On Sunday, we had loads of visitors, and when it was time for anyone to leave, we would all walk them to their car. At one point we all were seeing someone out, and we heard Aunty Cece shout, Bizzee, Bizzee, we panicked and we all run to see what was happening …Aunty Cece was literally doubled over laughing, Abieku was going round drinking the dregs of people’s beer, his belly was full and out there, he was three years old, and Aunty Cece did not stop him, she wanted all of us to see what he was getting up to! There was another time, Angel and Harry, were about six and seven years old, we were visiting and Auntie Cece picked us up, we were all so excited, Dela was cooking up a feast. In the car, the children told Aunty Cece they were unhappy with Grandma bringing someone into the house over their holidays… Aunty Cece, agreed with them, she said they needed to set up a protest, she taught them a chant, told them what to say to their grandparents, she prepared them for pure Aluta. They came home and shieed ojay, their grandfather was impressed, they all loved their Aunty Cece, she as a grown-up who got them. As Aunty Cece got older, she mellowed a bit, she did not drive mad fast, she did not drink brandy, but she was still full of jokes, she was funny, she was always full of wisdom, but she delivered her message with humour. Aunty Cece was one of the tallest Aunties and she knew it, she dressed to complement her build, she always looked good, she loved good organic Ghanaian cuisine, she loved all things made in Ghana. We all know she did not like the sea, she had endless jokes about that. With Aunty Cece gone, the world is slightly colder, slightly quieter, slightly lonelier. We will miss her so much, she filled our lives with joy, laughter and colour. It is certainly not good bye, it is see you later, dear darling Aunty Cece. Rest, sleep, gather energy, for we are coming. Rest in peace, Aunty Cece and rise in glory. Your greatest fan club, team Brew-Graves Grief is the price we pay for love, Queen Elizabeth II 1946 MRS.
