There are some people whose presence fills a room long before they say a word — people whose calm confidence, grace, and warmth make everyone around them feel seen, heard, and valued. For me, Mrs. Cecilia Johnson, or as I fondly called her, Auntie Cecie, was one of those people. Long before I had the privilege of working directly with her, I admired her from afar during my days as a Regional Secretary for the 31st December Women’s Movement. She carried herself with quiet strength — a woman who commanded respect, not by demanding it, but by deserving it. When I later had the honour of working under her as a National Project Officer - for seven years - that admirationgrewintodeeprespect—andeventually into a beautiful friendship I will always cherish. Auntie Cecie was the kind of leader who brought out the best in everyone around her. She was confident, hardworking, meticulous, and deeply committed to her work. She was also a peace maker, a woman who could calm tensions with a gentle smile and a few thoughtful words. She paid attention to detail, but even more importantly, she paid attention to people. She listened — really listened — to understand, not just to respond. Our friendship grew beyond the office walls. We shared countless conversations and laughter, often over an evening drink at a small pub nearby — those were simple but golden moments. That’s where I saw her warmth and humour shine. Behind the serious professional exterior was a woman who loved to laugh, tell stories, and reflect on life. She cared about people in a way that left an imprint. She showed real interest in my children. I’ll never forget how my son, Papa, once drew a picture of her when he was in primary school. She was so touched that she placed that drawing on her refrigerator — and kept it there for years. That small act spoke volumes about her heart — how she valued relationships and cherished even the little things that connected us. “A Life of Grace and Service” From Mrs. Theresa Ainoo-Ansah T R I B U T E 1 1946 MRS.
