Ours was not just friendship or comradeship. It could only be described as a fulfillment of the divine saying that ‘when we are of like minds, we shall definitely meet irrespective of distance or geographical location’. Indeedbothof us sharemanycommon lifeaspirations. Auntie Ceci as she became known throughout the length and breath of the country was a woman of substance who had the welfare of humanity at heart. She would not blink an eye where matters involved with the upliftment of people, particularly the underprivileged women and children, from their plight to better their status was concerned. As General Secretary of the 31st December Women’s Movement (DWM), Cecilia Johnson led the crusade to champion the course of the well-being of all women in the country, urging them to take up responsibilities in all aspects of life and encouraging them not to be intimidated in any way. She took commitment and courage to a higher level. She was full of energy and foresight. As an astute politician Auntie Ceci was unmatched when it came to mobilizing for political and social causes. Talk about resilience and she epitomized it. Together with the president of the 31st December Women’s Movement, the late Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, our yearning desire of transforming society through the synergies of women brought us into collaboration with Dr. Hanny Sherry Ayittey of blessed memory, Mrs. Martei, Mrs. Rebecca Adotey, MadamPatience Doamekpor, Mrs. Lucy Asibi Bebli (deceased), Mrs. Molly Anim Addo, Mrs. Victoria Kuma Minta, Amb. Mrs. Edith Haizel, Mrs. Sati Ocran and myself who together worked tirelessly as a team for the NDC and women emancipation. AuntieCeciwas instrumental in the formationofQueenMothers Association and several other groupings whose growth and support to the county have been remarkable. In the journey of life, there are seats, reserved for those who work tirelessly and selflessly. Auntie Ceci is deserving of one of the seats. SHE WASANUNSUNGHERO, who never took personal glory for her achievements. Auntie Ceci now that you’re no more we shall proclaim your huge name which can never be deleted in the historyof theNDC, the31stDecemberMovement &evenGhana. She fought a good fight and has won the race. REST IN PERFECT PEACE CECILIA. From Mad. Faustina Nelson former National Vice Chair of NDC “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we live.” NELSONMANDELA 1946 MRS. CECILIA JOHNSON 2025 86 A Loving Farewell
